Men can change their lives with Image Consultant Vancouver

When you are dressing for a job interview in Vancouver, image is very important.

The way you present yourself to a potential employer for a job interview, is the first thing they are going to notice about you. This happens before you even have chance to say a word or shake a hand.

My Job Interview advice to MEN in Vancouver:

1. Wear a business suit (solid dark blue or grey is best). Be certain that your clothing is clean and well pressed.

2. Wear a long-sleeved shirt to the job interview (white is always best, pastel is your next best bet).

3. Wear a tie, preferably a solid colour or a conservative pattern.

4. Wear your most conservative pair of shoes (black is your best choice). Make sure they are clean and polished.

5. Wear dark socks to the job interview (black is your best choice).

I strongly recommend that Vancouver men also pay attention to some of the smaller job interview details like:

1. Fingernails. They have to be clean and well-trimmed.

2. Minimal amount of cologne.

3. No visible body piercing or tattoos.

4. If you normally wear an earring or earrings, please leave them at home.

5. No rings other than your wedding ring. This is a job interview, not fashion show.

Also guys, before your job interview don’t forget to get a haircut. Short hair is always best. Also be clean-shaven.  Moustaches and beards need to be neat and trimmed.

My Job Interview advice to WOMEN in Vancouver:

1. Wear a suit with a jacket and skirt or pair of slacks (preferably dark blue, grey or black). No dresses!

2. Wear a conservative long-sleeved shirt/or blouse (white is your best choice followed by pastel colours).

3. Wear clean and polished dark shoes to the interview with conservative heels (2 inches maximum).

4. Choose conservative skin colour pantyhose or stockings and please, no runs! Always have an extra pair in your briefcase just in case.

5. No purses, small or large. Leave them at home ladies. Carry a briefcase instead. The colour of your shoes should match.

6. If you wear nail polish, use clear or a conservative colour.

7. Keep your makeup simple and natural (it should  not be too noticeable).

8. I would not recommend wearing more than one ring and one set of earrings.

9. Well-groomed hairstyle at a job interview is also very important.

10. A minimal amount of perfume.

11. And again, no visible body piercing or tattoos.

BIGGEST IMAGE MISTAKES MADE ON VANCOUVER JOB INTERVIEWS:

1. Running shoes. Forget it!

2. Hats. Don't go there!

3. Skirts that are too short. Save them for the club!

4. Very bright colours. Not an option! You’re trying to impress, not blind, your potential employer!

5. See-through shirts and low cut blouses. You’re trying to get a job, not a date!

How I help my clients to prepare for an important job interview in Vancouver is to evaluate and reconcile their wardrobe. This means assessing what can be kept and what needs to go. We then go shopping and you’d be surprised how expensive looking the right inexpensive clothing can be.
